Conducting the Research

On November 17th, I started to conduct my research for my civic engagement project. I interviewed five different student-athletes and asked them five different questions. Three of the athletes are on the Men’s Basketball Team while two are on the Men’s Soccer Team.

These were the questions asked:

  • How many hours of sleep do you usually get a night?
  • How many hours of practice and hours of studying do you usually get a day?
  • Are you falling asleep in class or feel drowsy during studying because of physical exertion from practice?
  • On a scale of 1-10(10: highest), how stressed are you?
  • As an athlete, do you believe your academics are impacted because of athletics?

All of the athletes answered fairly consistently and related to each other. Based off of the questions asked, we can see that I used a mixed-methodology research method.

As a result, we can see that athletics do impact academic performance at a high level. After retrieving all of this data, I am able to compare and contrast all the results and see how it relates back to my topic question.
